Scout Paré-Phillips

Scout Paré-Phillips

Scout Paré-Phillips is a photographer and musician from Brooklyn, New York. She has a solo record and a full-length with her band, The Sterling Sisters, on Pesanta Urfolk and a forthcoming solo full-length on Not Just Religious Music out in 2014. Struggling to balance stark beauty and graphic content, she often portrays herself with others in contorted positions utilizing leather and BDSM accessories. Influenced by her own sex life and relationships, her music and photography speak autobiographically about her power struggle and exchange with the people she is involved with. She studied photography, textiles, and teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Like Schiele’s bodies, Scout’s looks stark yet gentle, exuding a dark sensuality. And the marks observed on the body of Scout’s model, the pinkish shades that cross the body, alongside the black tattoo graphic, turn into motifs that cover the body, tied to the garments that act as a frame for the body.
