“The Legendary Images: Great Photographers and Dior” exhibition at Musée Christian Dior

Dior celebrates its visual heritage with an upcoming exhibition, dedicated to the iconic photographers that have collaborated with the French house throughout its 60-years of history. The exhibition, which is titled “The Legendary Images: Great Photographers and Dior”, will run from May 3 through Sept 21, 2014, at the Christian Dior Museum, housed at Dior’s Bell Époque style childhood home in Granville, north France. On view there will be more than 200 images that capture the ever-inspiring Dior spirit by internationally celebrated photographers like Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton, Horst P. Horst, Irving Penn, Erwin Blumenfeld, Nick Knight, Patrick Demarchelier, Ines Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Nan Goldin and Richard Avedon. The exhibition will also feature 60 of Christian Dior’s iconic haute couture gowns, as well as an interesting selection of archival documents that cast a light on the visual evolution of the house. In celebration of the exhibition, Rizzoli will publish a 152-page book of the same title, due to be released on June 3, 2014, which exemplifies, through the mythical photos that have constructed Dior’s image, how the maison “transcended fashion to enter the realm of legend”.
