Acne’s tribute to artist Peter Schlesinger

Acne Studios has collaborated with New York-based painter and sculptor Peter Schlesinger for a limited edition collection of colorful silk pajamas, with prints and patterns inspired by Schlesinger’s abstract artworks. The artist maintains a close friendship with Acne’s creative director Jonny Johansson and has contributed on numerous occasions to Acne Paper, the brand’s arty magazine, so a clothing collection seemed a natural evolution of their mutual admiration. The Acne x Peter Schlesinger unisex collection comprises a wrap jacket, graphic T-shirts, shorts and pants, all made with the intention to be displayed in public, and not hidden under bed sheets.

The capsule collection is accompanied by an edition of a new monograph, published by Acne, that traces the artist’s evolution from the 1980s up to the present day, featuring a careful selection of his ceramic sculptures and works on paper photographed by his partner of 40 years Eric Boman. The luxury book, whose cover is wrapped in jute cloth, comes in a limited edition of 1000 copies, each one manually numbered with a stamp. Acne’s collaboration with Peter Schlesinger was launched on April 29 with a special party in Dia space in West Chelsea, New York, with a unique selection of Schlesinger’s artworks offered for sale during the event and also at the brand’s site.

The collaboration with Jonny has been inspiring on many levels,” said Schlesinger. “His free spirit has opened up possibilities and directions I would not necessarily have found. It is creativity at its most generous.” And Johansson added: “Peter is both a great friend of mine and also someone whose work I have admired for a long time. He is honest in everything he does, creating work that is both brutal and fragile, tribal and sophisticated, historical and modern, all at the same time.” The Acne x Peter Schlesinger capsule collection and book are now available at the brand’s online store as well as at Acne’s flagships in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Stockholm.
