Craig Green teams up with Nick Knight for his a/w 2015 campaign

Craig Green, one of London’s most promising young designers and recent winner of the British Fashion Award for Emerging Menswear Designer, teamed up with legendary photographer and owner of SHOWstudio Nick Knight for his first ever ad campaign, featuring his acclaimed a/w 2015 collection. The duo was inspired by the force and masculinity of sports like football and rugby, combined with the evocative vision of a ship’s crew during a horrendous storm at sea, in order to create a series of images that explore the notions of chaos and hostility. The campaign brings together fashion and dance, featuring three models and a ballet dancer that crash into each other, suspended in the air as if gravity never existed, with their layered kitelike outfits floating like war banners or ship flags.

The striking ad campaign, which will soon appear in all major print publications, is an excellent interpretation of Green’s a/w 2015 collection that was built around the concepts of protection, restriction and release, featuring a series of uniform-inspired clothes in a strict palette of navy, red and green. The designer’s debut campaign is accompanied by an impressive fashion video that was shot on set by Nick Knight, allowing us to experience in a whole new way the power and drama of the choreography. In order to celebrate the collaboration, Dover Street London also launched a special installation in its window displays, featuring the black and red flags that appear in the video.

There’s a brilliant tension to Craig’s work,Knight said about the talented designer. “On one hand it’s so simple and pure, rooted in ideas of traditional masculine work wear, but on the other it’s so dynamic, so theatrical – full of energy and movement. That combination is what makes it so special to photograph.Craig Green, on the other hand, admitted that he has always been a huge admirer of Knight’s incredible vision and technical skill. “He really understood what we wanted to express and the energy of the Autumn Winter ’15 collection,” he concluded.
