Daniel Palillo brings his “Paintings About The Fashion World” to New York

Finnish designer and artist Daniel Palillo decided to explore the relationship between art and fashion, basing his entire s/s 2015 collection on his own paintings. The collection, which was titled “Paintings About The Fashion World”, was presented some days ago at The Hole gallery in New York with great success. Palillo, who studied art before studying fashion, created for the occasion an impressive installation, juxtaposing his abstract portraits with his hand-made garments, some of them featuring surreal patchworks with more than 189 pieces of fabric sewn together. With titles like “Designers Against Global Warming”, “Fat Hipster”, “Twerk”, “Mr. Startup” and “Street Style”, each painting aimed to tell a different fashion story and was accompanied by its corresponding apparel, worn by statue-like mannequins instead of real models.

Palillo, who gives an extraordinary importance to the concept behind every garment, managed to translate his 2D artworks to 3D apparel, taking a specific color palette, drawing or graphic pattern from his paintings and applying it to his fabrics, and establishing, in this way, an interesting dialogue between the artworks and the fashion designs. Taking it up to the next level, every piece of the collection was limited to 50 pieces, as if it were a limited-edition print.

After being exhibited at The Hole gallery (312 Bowery Street, NYC) from 5 to 7 of September, 2014, Daniel Palillo’s “Paintings About The Fashion World” will be showcased at the International Playground Showroom (463 Broome Street – Lower Level, NYC) from 8 to 15 of September, 2014, and then at the Daniel Palillo Showroom (45 Rue Saint Honoré, Paris), from 28 to 30 of September, 2014.
