David Bailey T-shirt capsule collection for Selfridges

Legendary fashion photographer David Bailey collaborated with East London design studio The Bleach Room for a capsule collection of T-shirts, sold exclusively at Selfridges. The collection is comprised of six designs that feature Bailey’s iconic portraits of Michael Caine, Johnny Depp, Boy George, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones and John Lennon. Although for many the collection came as a big surprise since Bailey has famously expressed in the past his disregard for fashion, considering it to be the most boring thing in the world, nobody can argue that it’s s a great chance for all of his fans to own and wear a piece of his inspiring work. “Not everyone can afford a print [so] it’s a nice way of making [my work available] for everyone…I think it’s quite nice that everyone can have a T-shirt that has an image with some history behind it.” said the 76-old artist to WWD.

The launch of the collection coincides with the opening of the “Stardust” exhibition that the National Portrait Gallery dedicates to Bailey in February. “Stardust” features more than 250 images, personally selected and printed by himself, which cover the prolific 50-year career of the photographer that captured and helped create the “Swinging London” of the 60’s and inspired Michelangelo Antonioni for his “Blow up” movie. David Bailey’s capsule collection is now available at Selfridges, with each T-shirt priced at £70.
