Denim & Supply brings its Warehouse Project, featuring artist Alexa Meade, to Madrid

Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply launched some weeks ago its Warehouse Project, a creative initiative that is inspired by the warehouse and artistic communities of Brooklyn. The Warehouse Project celebrates the newest faces in art and fashion, and has already recruited world famous DJ and producer Avicii who contributed to the project by inviting his fans from all over the world to take part in the teaser video of his upcoming album. After Avicii, it was the turn of self-taught, Los Angeles based illustrator Alexa Meade to unite forces with Denim & Supply. Alexa has become famous for her painted portraits of every-day people who are seemingly transformed into two-dimensional artworks, creating optical illusions by actually reversing the classical trompe l’oeil technique. The artist paints directly on her subjects’ bodies and clothes, as well as on the objects that surround them, challenging the viewer’s imagination by altering his perception of space and reality.

“A lot of my work is very much spontaneous, I can start out with a notion of what it will look like, but I can’t force a brushstroke to match what I planned in advance, because the gesture is in that moment,” says the artist about her painting process. After having teamed up with Denim & Supply for a live-painting performance in a warehouse-looking installation in Los Angeles, Alexa will visit Madrid’s Plaza Fuencarral on Sept. 19 and 20, 2014. The artist promises to offer an unforgettable experience to all the Spanish art and fashion lovers that are brave enough to get transformed into living canvases, so if you are around Madrid, you should definitely stop by!

Alexa Meade’s live painting performance for Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply will take place at Plaza Fuencarral, Madrid, on Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20, at 12:00-3:00 pm and 5:00-8:00 pm.
