Mackage and Bradley Theodore team up for “The Underground Artist” exhibition

Canadian fashion brand Mackage, famous for its impressive range of outerwear, and renowned street artist and curator Bradley Theodore have come together for a pop-up exhibition at the brand’s flagship store in Soho, New York. Titled “The Underground Artist”, the exhibition forms part of the brand’s annual Soho Summer Series and features, apart from Theodore’s work, pieces by artists ByFlore, Jay West, LeRone Wilson, Humza Deas, Hassan Kinley and Ray Smith, juxtaposed with the brand’s newly arrived fall-winter 2015 collection.

Mackage’s co-creative directors Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy fell in love with Theodore’s colorful work two years ago, when a mural depicting two skeletal caricatures of Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour caught their attention in Lower Manhattan. “We really loved the colors, and the look of it, and eventually we were able to meet up together and think of something to do. It’s a nice way to let some color in here,” Elisa Dahan told the Observer. The artworks are placed at the front windows and at various spaces inside the boutique, transforming it into an awe-inspiring art gallery. “It gives the store a different life, which is really fun. We’re very dark, and Bradley’s work is so colorful and bright. It’s a nice balance,” explained Dahan.

In order to celebrate this unique art meets fashion collaboration, Mackage and Bradley Theodore hosted some days ago a private opening party at the brand’s flagship store in Soho. Style icons and art enthusiasts Johannes Huebl, Nastia Liukin, Christiane Seidel, Danielle Bernstein, Logan Horne, Aamito Lagum, Kelsey Soles and Baylee Soles popped by to admire, under the tunes of DJ Brendan Fallis, the impressive range of paintings, sculptures, photography prints and projections that are featured in the exhibition. “The Underground Artist” will remain on view until September 27, 2015, at Mackage’s Soho store, 123 Mercer Street.
