Opening Ceremony unveils limited-edition Magritte collection

Opening Ceremony pays tribute to the surreal universe of Belgian artist René Magritte with a capsule collection of menswear and womenswear. Magritte, whose work often juxtaposed ordinary objects in an unusual context and challenged the observers’ preconditioned perceptions of reality, is the ultimate star of the collection that features 12 of his most iconic paintings, including Sheherazade, The Beautiful Relations, La Cascade, The King’s Museum, Discovery Of Fire, Hegel’s Holiday and The Lovers, printed on sweaters, dresses, skirts, trousers and bomber jackets. What’s more, the brand teamed up with Vans, Birkenstock and Manolo Blahnik, who designed an exclusive stiletto featuring Magritte’s The Blow To The Heart, for a collection of limited edition footwear.

Magritte capsule collection, which manages to translate the artist’s constant play with reality and illusion into fashion, was launched during London Fashion Week and will be available from May 2014 in selected Opening Ceremony stores and online. We leave you with one of Magritte’s quotes, which reflects his artistic philosophy as well as the spirit behind the collection: “When one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, ‘What does that mean?’. It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable.”
