The new-found sensuality of Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto surprised everyone with his latest collection that explored female sexuality in a never before seen way. After all, sexiness is not a term that is often associated with the designer, who revealed that he broke one of his taboos for his s/s 2015 collection, presented some days ago during Paris Fashion Week. Yamamoto’s take on sensuality was gentle, still provoking, ethereal, and at the same time playful, with soft fabrics caressing the body and windows of flesh being carefully revealed.

The collection included silk dresses hanged to the shoulders by thin straps, metallic laces, asymmetric layers of sheer panels, deconstructed structures with webby-knits and cuts that were revealing slivers of skin, leather coats with unexpected details, and semi-transparent ensembles made from antique fabrics from Myanmar and Laos, all melted together under the creative gaze of the genius.

Yamamoto celebrated the power of seduction in his own, personal way, avoiding the too obvious and leaving much to the imagination. “I challenged what is sexy for me,” said the designer after the show. “Showing the body is very delicate, because when you show it too much, it becomes nothing,” he added, and we couldn’t agree more with him!
