WWD commissions top fashion designers to create Christmas cards

In the spirit of Christmas, WWD asked top fashion designers of the likes of Alber Elbaz, Marchesa, Sonia Rykiel, Francisco Costa or Dsquared2 to create special greeting cards, inspired by the traditional Christmas stockings. The celebrated designers brought something of their fashion sense to the classic season’s cards, decorating their stockings with jewel-like robots, laces, candies and patters from their latest collections, or adding a twist to the familiar shape, like Josep Font who created a “delicate glove inspired by the modern holiday season”.

“I’m always attracted to the naive charm of 19th century decorative arts. I wanted my stocking to be a silhouette of a Victorian boot, like from a cobbler’s wooden sign. I’d cut it out of black felt and decorate it with glitter and sequins,” said Anna Sui, while Lela Rose commented: “In line with my love for entertaining, especially around the holiday season, I created this stocking encompassing my love of cooking, fashion and throwing the perfect party.” “We wish everyone a happy and sparkly Christmas! We hope that your stockings are full of dreams, wishes and desires that will become true!” added Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2, and we couldn’t agree more with them!
